Toi Dine (Nanyang Street) Taman Mount Austin | Industrial Edge in a Classic Setting

This commercial design project for Toi Dine focuses on an aesthetic transformation, applying a modern, sleek industrial concept within a building characterized by its classic yellow and detailed façade. The design uses a dominant black scheme and raw textures to create a grounded, sophisticated, and highly functional dining experience across two levels.

Entrance: Statement and Transition

While the existing classical façade remains, the owner’s intention for a distinct premise feeling is achieved through subtle additions. Black tone becomes the main concept color, lending a modern and sleek industrial setting. A lit brand logo acts as the focal point. The entrance is grounded by checkered black and white tiles, which serve as a classical transition and a solid entrance statement, effectively bridging the existing classical exterior feature with the new interior concept.

Dining Hall: Zoned Capacity and Sophistication

The premise is cleverly divided into two levels of dining spaces (ground and first floor mezzanine) to maximize customer capacity and offer options for private and social dining. The spaces are zoned according to dining table types and capacity.

The industrial atmosphere is enhanced by the selection of black light fittings, which evenly illuminate the entire premise. A concrete block feature wall improves the visual sense for social gathering and establishes the premise’s raw, industrial personality. The material palette—grey concrete, black metal, and warm wood tones—evokes a grounded and flexible style. Wall-mounted black spotlights cast gentle shadows on the concrete surface, adding depth and sophistication.

The main dining hall is an intimate, casual space lit by warm light to give a relaxing ambiance. This area is subtly divided by a custom-made louvre partition attached to a half-height wall panel, adding volume and guiding the flow toward the cashier counter.

First Floor Mezzanine: Private Gatherings

The first-floor mezzanine fulfills the need for both open and private dining areas. These spaces are separated by a hidden door partition and a mesh wire feature wall opposite the stairs. This mezzanine is ideal for large customer numbers, often serving as a spot for celebrations and private ceremonies. Classic Chesterfield style sofas in rich brown and black leather enhance a vintage classic vibe, adding boldness to the industrial setting. The private dining space can serve 10 pax with a large surface dining table and focused warm-tone light, creating a lounge-like feeling.
